Why I THON.

I THON for love, for hope, for courage, wisdom, honesty and strength. I THON for the families and the patients, for those who have been affected by cancer and for those whom cancer has taken from us. I THON for the many children whom I never had the opportunity to meet but who have inspired me nonetheless. I THON to show the children and families that something beautiful can come out of something ugly. I THON in the hopes that I can give the children and families as much hope as they have given me. I THON so kids can be kids, and to give children a second chance at life. I THON for a future, and I THON in the hopes that someday, we will find a cure. I THON to give back the lives of families that have been torn apart by cancer, and I THON to keep the memories of those taken by cancer alive. I THON to give strength to the Four Diamonds families, because while we choose to be strong THON weekend, they don’t have a choice; they have to be strong. I THON because you haven’t really lived until you can look into the eyes of a child and know that because of you and because of this greater cause, this child has a chance. I THON to help kids forget their sickness and remember how to have fun and be free. I THON for my friend’s little sister, for my friends Nick, Aidan, and Andrea, for that fiercely strong eleven year old boy who silenced an auditorium of obnoxious teenagers with his wisdom, for all of the Four Diamonds patients I’ve gotten to know over the years. Most of all, though, I THON for the kids who show me that anything is possible.

“When cancer is cured, we will dance in celebration. Until then, we dance for life.”
